Copenhagen has decided to rename seven new streets after Ukrainian cities. This was reported by the Ukrainian World Congress, citing Lesya Ignatyuk-Eriksen, head of the public organization Hjælp Ukrainske Børn – Help Ukrainian Children.
The decision was made by the city's climate, technical and environmental committee. The names were chosen from among Ukrainian port cities so that they would harmoniously fit into the maritime character of the area where the new streets will be located.
According to the decision, the following streets will appear in Copenhagen:
-
Kyivhada (Kyiv Street)
-
Mariupolgade (Mariupol Street)
-
Ukrainagade (Ukraine Street)
-
Sevastopolgade (Sevastopol Street)
-
Khersongade (Kherson Street)
-
Mykolaivgade (Mykolaiv Street)
-
Odessagade (Odesa Street)
The Ukrainian community in Copenhagen separately insisted on the inclusion of Mariupol, noting that the city had become a symbol of the heroic resistance of Ukrainian defenders.
According to the organizers, this decision is an important gesture of solidarity with Ukraine and its cities that are experiencing military aggression.
