On June 5, political consultations between the deputy foreign ministers of Ukraine and China took place in Beijing. This meeting became an important stage in the development of bilateral relations and the discussion of prospects for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, the Ukrainian delegation was headed by First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiga, and the Chinese side was represented by Deputy Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of China Sun Weidong.
During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues of bilateral relations, identified joint steps to intensify contacts at the highest and highest levels, strengthen the positive dynamics of trade and economic cooperation and further cooperation within the framework of international organizations.
"The interlocutors emphasized the importance of observing the principles of the UN Charter and international law. As noted by the parties, mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity is the foundation on which bilateral relations between Ukraine and China are based," the statement reads.
Sybiga informed his Chinese colleagues about the situation in Ukraine and preparations for the Global Peace Summit in Switzerland. "The Ukrainian side expressed the hope that the participation of the People's Republic of China in the event could be a good opportunity to make a practical contribution to achieving a just and lasting peace in Ukraine," the statement emphasized.
Sybiga also emphasized that the only basis for achieving such peace is the Peace Formula of President Volodymyr Zelenskyi.
During the working visit to Beijing, meetings were also held with the special representative of the Chinese government for Eurasian affairs, Li Hui, and the deputy head of the international department of the CPC Central Committee, Chen Zhou.
