The Ukrainian power system faces significant challenges in the middle of summer. Daily electricity shortages may increase due to peak consumption during this period, Ukrenergo representatives reported.
The company explains that it will be difficult to meet all electricity needs due to repair work at thermal and hydroelectric power plants damaged by Russian shelling.
“In the summer, hydroelectric power plants usually reduce production, and nuclear power plant units are under repair and preparation for the loads of next winter,” Ukrenergo adds.
The power system is expected to experience power shortages throughout the day on Thursday, June 6. Power consumption limits will be in effect for each region from 00:00 to 24:00.
It is also worth noting that the Cabinet of Ministers has increased the electricity tariff for the population. With an average monthly electricity consumption of 170 kWh, the electricity bill will increase by 285 UAH. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy. The new tariff will be 4.32 UAH per kilowatt.
After the increase in electricity tariffs, Ukrainians should prepare for an increase in the cost of heating.
The government also plans to remove customs and bureaucratic obstacles to the import of generators, solar panels, inverters, and other equipment into Ukraine.
