Ukrainian pair skaters Iryna Pidhayna and Artem Koval won a bronze medal in the final of the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating, which took place in Japan. This is a historic achievement for Ukrainian figure skating: the last time our country won a medal in the final of this tournament was 26 years ago.
The previous time the duo Khrystyna Kobaladze and Oleg Voiko climbed to the podium in the finals of the 1999/2000 season. The current result of Pidhaina and Koval became only the second medal in the history of Ukraine in ice dancing at the finals of the Junior Grand Prix.
Ukrainian skaters paved the way to the decisive stage thanks to brilliant performances at the stages in Turkey and Poland, where they won two first places.
In Japan, Pidhayna and Koval confidently started in rhythmic dance and showed the second result. According to the results of two programs, the Ukrainian duet scored 156.22 points: 63.43 in rhythmic dance and 92.79 in free, where they took fourth place.
As noted by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, this result was an important event for Ukrainian junior figure skating and another confirmation of the high level of the national school.
