Serhiy Zarakhin, a specialist in the development and production of woodworking equipment, has begun production of a new project - a modular structure called the “Life Capsule.” This innovative structure is designed to protect against the possible consequences of rocket attacks, and has already found its application in a family from the Kyiv region.
The “Life Capsule” is a prefabricated steel structure designed for various types of buildings, including multi-storey residential buildings, private homes, office premises and other facilities where it is not possible to install a monolithic structure. The structure consists of steel elements that are bolted together and attached to a supporting wall. There are two size options: for three and six people, with an increase in width due to additional length.
The main parameters of the “Life Capsule” include:
- Length: 2.1 m;
- Height: 2.1 m;
- Width: 1.1 m for three people and 1.4 m for six people;
- Material: 5 mm steel;
- Weight: 750 kg and 850 kg respectively;
- Heaviest part: 45 kg.
According to the developer, the “Life Capsule” is capable of withstanding 99% of fragments and small fragments (up to 5 mm) in the event of a missile or explosive impact, although it is not designed for direct hit. According to calculations, the structure can withstand fire for 30 minutes, so it is recommended to install fire extinguishers, respirators and oxygen canisters inside.
The structure also has emergency hatches on three sides for egress in the event of a door blockage. In addition, there are hooks on both sides of the capsule for lifting it with a crane or truck.
The developer has already conducted two tests of the “Life Capsule”. The first test involved dropping a concrete slab weighing 1,100 kg onto the structure from a height of 9.3 m, with the developer inside. It confirmed the high strength of the structure. The second test demonstrated that in the event of a building collapse, the capsule could withstand the weight of the debris. As a result of the test, the structure sagged by only 15 millimeters and recovered to its original state after the load was removed.
The cost of the “Life Capsule” is 53,000 UAH, which includes the cost of materials, but the developer sells it for 70,000 UAH. A portion of the profit goes to pay a 5% tax.
Serhiy has already successfully installed one capsule for a family living in a blast-prone house near Boyarka. This protection is likened to a seat belt in a car, which may not provide absolute safety, but significantly increases the chances of survival.
Serhiy is currently working on developing a barrier that will withstand a 7.62 caliber bullet, and plans to test this new element in the near future.
