According to Ukrainian intelligence, there was information about the plans of the Russian occupiers to attack the territory of the Kharkiv region. The relevant authorities were informed about this threat, but despite this, the enemy was able to launch an offensive and capture some border areas.
This was reported by Andriy Yusov, a representative of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, during a telethon.
“We can say that the enemy’s actions in this direction began according to a schedule that was known and reported on. As befits the Main Intelligence Directorate, all necessary authorities and their leadership were informed,” Yusov said.
According to him, fighting is ongoing in the Kharkiv region, in which GUR special forces are also participating.
"Now the enemy is suffering heavy losses. It is clear that all the necessary information is being made public by the General Staff, in particular," the intelligence officer added.
Yusov noted that the occupiers had thrown soldiers from the Moscow and Leningrad military districts into the Kharkiv region. He appealed to the Russians and called on them to surrender. The GUR representative noted that such cases have already occurred.
“Given the scale of the situation with the Russian group, their losses and future ones, a decision was made to quickly open an additional camp for Russian prisoners of war in Ukraine,” Yusov said.
What is happening in Kharkiv region?
On the night of May 10, Russian occupation forces launched an offensive in the north of Kharkiv region. The invaders attempted to break through the positions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine near the city of Vovchansk.
The defense forces repelled the enemy attack, but fighting in this direction continues. At the same time, the occupiers are shelling Volchansk. As reported by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, the situation in the Kharkiv region has worsened.
According to the Ukrainian military, there is currently no threat to Kharkiv. It is likely that the Russian Federation wants to withdraw Ukrainian forces and reserves to other areas of the front.
