According to the National Police of Ukraine, the group stole fuel from railway equipment used in the repair and construction of state and interstate railway tracks. The organizer of the scheme involved employees of the Lviv and Odessa branches in the deal. They sold the stolen diesel fuel to local residents for cash. It was established that the dealers drained and sold 3.8 tons of fuel.
On November 11, operatives of the Strategic Investigations Department in the Zakarpattia region and investigators of the regional police department detained the organizer and five accomplices. During the searches, they seized almost 1.4 tons of diesel fuel, pumps, hoses, about 200 canisters, over 5 thousand dollars, over 3 thousand euros, almost 130 thousand hryvnias, and cars.
The detainees were informed of suspicions under Part 4 of Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (theft). The sanction of the article provides for a penalty of up to 8 years of imprisonment.
According to law enforcement officials, the scheme was uncovered and documented jointly with employees of the Corporate Security Department of JSC Ukrzaliznytsia. The procedural management is provided by the Transcarpathian Regional Prosecutor's Office.
