According to the State Customs Service, in January-November 2025, Ukraine imported 28.4 thousand tons of pork, which is 12.9 times more than in the same period in 2024. In monetary terms, the volume of imports reached $70.8 million - also almost 13 times more than last year's figure.
The main suppliers of pork to Ukraine remain Denmark (57.9%), Poland (19%) and the Netherlands (7.9%). At the same time, exports of Ukrainian pork over the same period decreased by 21.4% to 2.2 thousand tons, and their value decreased by 4.3% to $6.6 million. The main buyers of Ukrainian pork are the UAE (33.9%), Hong Kong (16.9%) and Bahrain (16.6%).
Experts from the Association of Pig Farmers of Ukraine explain the sharp increase in imports by the coincidence of several factors: insufficient domestic supply and high prices for domestic pork, exhaustion of quotas for duty-free import of pork from the EU, and a decrease in the average customs value of imported meat to $2.56 per kilogram in September.
Despite record import volumes, the majority of pork on the Ukrainian market still comes from domestic producers.
According to analysts, there has also been an increase in the price of lard - its cost has increased by 26.2% year-on-year. The main reason for the shortage of lard and pork is said to be the reduction in livestock due to the war.
It was previously reported that Ukraine has increased exports of cattle and beef, which is explained by high world prices and limited supply on foreign markets.
