In the coming days, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky may visit the US state of Florida to hold key negotiations related to future formats for ending the war. The Mar-a-Lago residence, which is considered one of the centers of informal political coordination in the United States, is being considered as the venue for the meetings.
It is expected that the trip could take place as early as December 28. The negotiations should be a continuation of the active contacts between the Ukrainian leadership and representatives of the American political establishment, which took place on Christmas Eve.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelenskyy publicly spoke about a long telephone conversation with representatives of the US president's team - Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. According to the head of state, the discussion was as substantive as possible and concerned not general declarations, but specific formats of meetings, deadlines and decisions necessary to stop hostilities.
The President of Ukraine stressed that Kyiv has prepared a number of practical proposals. Some of the documents are in the final stages of completion, and some are already fully ready. Zelensky stressed that Ukraine is moving from general formulations to clear and structured solutions that can be used as the basis for the negotiation process.
The general tone of international contacts around these initiatives is one of reserved interest and heightened attention. Following a series of recent high-level meetings in Florida and Miami, the issue of a peaceful resolution to the war in Ukraine has once again found itself at the center of political debate in the United States.
At the same time, a number of fundamental problems remain that still have no clear solution. These include, first of all, security guarantees for Ukraine, mechanisms for enforcing agreements, and Russia's legal obligations in the event of any agreements being concluded. These are the issues that are considered the most difficult in the upcoming negotiations.
Kyiv's strategy is to anticipate possible skepticism from American policy, focused on domestic interests. Ukraine offers not abstract expectations, but a ready-made roadmap that should combine US security interests with a real path to ending the war, which continues to drain the West's resources.
The Christmas diplomatic activity of the Ukrainian side is seen as a clear signal: Kyiv no longer expects ready-made peace plans from Washington or Brussels. Ukraine is forming its own vision of ending the war and bringing it directly to the negotiating table with the future American administration.
