Ukrainians are asked to save electricity due to increased consumption

According to Ukrenergo, despite the increase in electricity consumption in Ukraine, the power system is functioning stably, and no power outages are expected today. However, experts emphasize the importance of responsible consumption, especially during peak hours, to maintain system stability.

Reasons for the growth of consumption

As of the morning of December 23, 2024, electricity consumption in Ukraine had increased by 2.5% compared to the same time on Friday, December 20. This increase was the result of several factors:

  • The beginning of the working week , which is traditionally accompanied by increased activity in enterprises and offices.
  • Cloudy weather and lower temperatures have caused a greater need to use electrical appliances for lighting and heating.

Despite this, the power system continues to demonstrate stable operation, as damaged facilities are being promptly restored. For example, on December 21, energy workers were able to restore power to over 88,000 consumers who were left without power due to shelling.

How to maintain power system stability

To reduce the load on the power system, electricity imports from neighboring countries are being integrated. Ukraine receives electricity from Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Hungary and Moldova. As of December 23, the volume of imports was 9,259 MWh, and the maximum import capacity at certain hours reached 1,042 MW. It is expected that this volume will increase to 11,015 MWh in the coming days.

Given the current state of the power system, experts are urging Ukrainians to use electricity sparingly, especially during peak hours from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. A simple approach to load shedding can ease the operation of the power system and reduce the risks of power outages.

Recommendations for consumers:

  1. Do not turn on several powerful electrical appliances at the same time.
  2. Use energy-saving lamps and household appliances.
  3. Avoid leaving electrical appliances on standby.
  4. Turn off lights in unnecessary places.

Thanks to electricity imports and rational distribution of energy resources, the power system is able to cope with increased loads. This allows us to avoid power outages and ensure a stable energy supply for millions of Ukrainians.
