In 2025, the Ukrainian car market recorded a further decline in demand for new passenger cars with gasoline engines. Over the year, slightly more than 26 thousand such cars were registered in Ukraine, which was a lower figure than the year before. Along with the decline in absolute sales, the share of gasoline models in the structure of the new passenger car market also decreased.
While in 2024, gasoline cars accounted for about 40 percent of all new car sales, in 2025 their share decreased to 32 percent. This indicates a gradual change in consumer priorities amid growing interest in other types of power plants, as well as a general increase in the price of new cars.
The most popular new petrol car of the year was the Hyundai Tucson crossover, which topped the sales ranking in its segment. The top five also included the Mazda CX-5, Skoda Octavia, Renault Duster and Kia Sportage. These models remain the most popular among buyers who still choose new petrol cars.
In contrast to the new segment, imports of used gasoline cars increased in 2025. The volume of imports of such cars increased by more than a tenth, and they themselves took up a significant share of initial registrations in the used car market. Despite the increase in numbers, the share of gasoline cars among all imported used cars decreased slightly, indicating a wider variety of engine types in this segment.
The most popular imported used gasoline cars were the Volkswagen Golf and Volkswagen Tiguan. The Audi Q5, Nissan Rogue and Audi A4 were also among the leaders. These models remain popular due to their combination of price, technical characteristics and availability in the European and American markets.
The overall dynamics of the car market indicate that Ukrainian consumers are increasingly preferring more affordable used cars, while the segment of new gasoline models is gradually losing ground. This trend is likely to continue in the future, given economic factors and changing demand structures.
