The meteorological summer in Ukraine is coming to an end, and a gradual decrease in temperature is expected in the coming days. At the same time, the weather will still be relatively warm during the day. It is this short period that forecasters are already calling the Indian summer.
As meteorologist Natalia Golenya explained, after the first autumn cold snaps, dry and sunny weather may set in in Ukraine, which is considered a traditional Indian summer. However, she emphasized that there are no clear meteorological criteria for its definition.
According to Goleni, if the average daily temperature drops below +15 degrees, then the meteorological summer is considered complete. If after that the weather remains dry, clear and warm, this is the Indian summer. However, it is still difficult to predict when it will finally end. The forecaster notes that a moderate cooling is expected next week: night temperatures will drop to freezing, and during the day it will be +10…+15, in places up to +17 degrees. Such a temperature regime is typical for the transitional autumn period. In turn, forecaster Nataliya Ptukha warned of the likely first frosts on the ground and in some places even in the air. According to her, the invasion of Arctic air from the northern regions will cause night temperatures to -3 degrees. In the northern regions, the air temperature may drop to zero.
However, daytime temperatures will remain stable. In the coming days, +12…+19 degrees are forecast, in the south and in Transcarpathia — up to +19. At the same time, moderate precipitation is expected in Ukraine, without prolonged rains.
Meteorologists do not rule out that Indian summer may return after a short-term cooling. Traditionally, in Ukraine, such a period most often occurs in October, when several days of dry, sunny, and warm weather set in after the first autumn frosts.
