Male citizens of Ukraine aged 18 to 60 who submitted documents for passports by April 25, 2024, will be able to receive them starting next week. This was announced by the Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko on his Telegram channel.
According to the minister, the government has regulated the mechanism for issuing documents to Ukrainians abroad. Passports will be available at the departments of the State Enterprise "Dokument" in the order of priority of application submission. Citizens waiting for documents will be sent a notification indicating the date, time and place of arrival.
At the same time, in order to obtain a passport, military registration documents remain a mandatory requirement for men of draft age.
Earlier, Ukraine passed a law on mobilization, according to which men liable for military service abroad cannot receive consular services unless they register for military service. This applies not only to passports, but also to the possibility of official employment.
In January, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Iryna Vereshchuk announced that, on the personal instructions of Volodymyr Zelensky, the issue of issuing passports had been resolved. According to her, in Poland alone, more than 80,000 Ukrainians were waiting for their documents.
Despite the resumption of passport issuance for those who submitted documents before April 2024, the question remains open for other categories of citizens. It is not yet known whether other men will be able to apply for new passports.
