Polish President Karol Nawrocki signed a new version of the law on assistance to Ukrainians, while stating that this is the last extension of such support.
During a rally marking 100 days of the presidency in Minsk-Mazowiecki, Nawrocki explained that he signed the second version of the law to avoid chaos in the system of support for Ukrainian citizens. He emphasized that in the future, assistance to Ukrainians in Poland will not continue in the previous format.
“I don’t want to be a president of chaos, so I signed the second version of the law on assistance to Ukrainians, but I did it for the last time,” said Nawrocki. He added that Ukrainians should receive support on the same terms as other national minorities in Poland.
According to the president, the original version of the law provided for assistance to 800+ Ukrainians who are not working in Poland, which he considered unfair to Poles. Support for Ukrainians, he said, must be combined with responsibility and justice for Polish society.
Navrotsky emphasized that the Ukrainian minority, which has been in Poland for the third year since the start of the war, must receive assistance responsibly and on the same terms as other national minorities, with clearly established rules.
As a reminder, from November 1, most Ukrainian refugees in Poland must cover their own housing costs.
