From October 2025, working Ukrainian refugees in the Netherlands will pay more for accommodation in state shelters. This was announced by Minister of Refugees and Migration Mona Keizer, NOS reports.
Currently, Ukrainians who have temporary protection status and official work or other sources of income pay 105 euros per month for accommodation in shelters. But this fall, this amount will increase to 244.22 euros. According to the official, this decision was made in order to unify the conditions of stay for Ukrainians and other categories of asylum seekers.
Mona Keiser explained that the additional funds paid by Ukrainians will be used to cover state costs for gas, water, and electricity in shelters. In this way, the government is trying to reduce the financial burden on the state budget and at the same time equalize living conditions for all categories of refugees.
For adult Ukrainians staying in temporary accommodation with organized meals, another expense item is being introduced - a monthly contribution of 252.18 euros. That is, a family of two adults will have to pay up to 992.80 euros per month for accommodation and meals.
The Dutch authorities announced the changes in advance so that people have time to adapt their financial plans. The innovation is expected to affect tens of thousands of Ukrainian refugees, as more than 59% of them already have a job or a stable source of income in the country.
The Dutch government believes that the new tariffs will make the refugee reception system fairer and more balanced. In addition, the country is trying to reduce the burden on local budgets in the face of a growing number of asylum seekers.
