January 2025 could mark the beginning of a new era in gas payments for Ukrainians. Delivery tariffs remain unchanged due to the military moratorium, but the recalculation will be based on new consumption volumes, which will cause changes in the amounts. Those who have been using gas economically may see a decrease in costs. On the other hand, consumers in small towns who use gas for heating will pay more.
How is the delivery fee calculated?
The payment for gas delivery consists of two parts:
- The gas delivery tariff remains fixed.
- The volume of gas consumed , calculated annually.
Currently, the amount is calculated based on consumption for a “gas year” (October 1 – September 30). For example, in 2025, the calculation will be based on consumption data from October 2023 to September 2024.
For example, a family of three in a 100 m² house consumes about 3,878 cubic meters of gas per year. In Kharkiv, this would mean a monthly delivery fee of UAH 138.9, while in Mykolaiv, it would be as much as UAH 642.9.
Who will have to pay more?
The increase in costs threatens those who use large volumes of gas for heating or live in regions with stretched gas networks and low consumer density. For example, in Mykolaiv, Lviv, or Transcarpathia, the tariff reaches UAH 1.99 per cubic meter, while in Kyiv it is the lowest – UAH 0.384.
How to reduce costs
Saving gas is the key to reducing costs. The simple way is to increase the energy efficiency of the house, which will reduce consumption by up to 20%. For the aforementioned family, this will mean reducing consumption to 3,102 cubic meters and saving on delivery:
- 27.7 UAH in Kharkiv,
- 96.3 UAH in Kropyvnytskyi,
- 128.4 UAH in Mykolaiv.
The cost of gas itself will also be significantly reduced, as its cost is UAH 7.96 per cubic meter.
Ukrainians who do not consume gas but are connected to the network are required to pay for the delivery of the following minimum volumes:
- 39 cubes per year for cooking,
- 126 cubes – for heating water,
- 314 cubes – for heating.
Those who want to avoid this fee must completely disconnect from the gas network.
It remains an open question how the changes will affect most households. The trend towards energy conservation, reinforced by tariff policy, may force Ukrainians to more actively implement energy-efficient solutions.
