In the middle of summer, the Ukrainian energy system faces significant challenges. Daily electricity shortages may increase due to peak consumption during this period, Ukrenergo company representatives reported.
The company explains that it will be difficult to meet all electricity needs due to repair work on thermal and hydroelectric power plants damaged by Russian shelling.
"During the summer, hydroelectric power plants usually reduce production, and nuclear power units are under repair and preparation for next winter's loads," Ukrenergo added.
The power system is expected to experience power shortages throughout the day on Thursday, June 6. Limits on electricity consumption will apply for each region from 00:00 to 24:00.
It is also worth noting that the Cabinet of Ministers increased the electricity tariff for the population. Based on the average monthly electricity consumption of 170 kWh, the payment for electricity will increase by UAH 285. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy. The new tariff will be UAH 4.32 per kilowatt.
After the increase in the electricity tariff, Ukrainians should prepare for an increase in the cost of heating.
The government also plans to remove customs and bureaucratic obstacles for importing generators, solar panels, inverters and other equipment into Ukraine.
