Ukrainian drones are reaching a new level and will now be able to help air defense

In recent months, Ukraine has been actively developing the drone industry, demonstrating impressive achievements in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Some of the latest developments already fly to record distances and demonstrate high combat capabilities, destroying Russian targets both on the ground and in the air.

Oleksandr Dmitriev, author and head of the EYES project, adviser to the commander of the Ground Forces of Ukraine, said that Ukrainian FPV drones significantly increase the effectiveness of hitting enemy targets. According to him, these drones are already actively helping the artillery, and some of them in the future will be able to work as anti-aircraft defense, destroying enemy aircraft.

Recent examples show that Ukraine is quickly adapting to new challenges on the battlefield. One of the most notable cases occurred when a Ukrainian FPV drone shot down a Russian ZALA Lancet reconnaissance drone. This success was achieved thanks to the high training of the crew and purposeful work on the battlefield.

Ukrainian drones have repeatedly demonstrated their ability to hit not only ground targets. In August 2024, a special unit of the SBU destroyed a Russian Mi-28 helicopter using an FPV drone. This case remains unique so far, but the growing capabilities of drones suggest that there may be more such operations in the near future.

Oleksandr Dmitriev is sure that already this year Ukrainian drones will be able to actively counter enemy air forces. The use of drones to destroy aerial targets can become an important stage in the development of Ukrainian defense.

The Ukrainian military is also working on the modernization of old weapons with the help of the latest technologies. According to Forbes, Ukrainian experts are using secret developments from the Second World War to create unmanned bombs. One such innovative solution is a detonator with a laser sensor that allows you to precisely activate the bomb at a given distance from the target.

In addition, the Armed Forces recently presented a new "Drakon" drone, which has a unique mechanism of action. This drone does not drop grenades or fly into a target with explosives, like most attack drones, but scatters thermite, a mixture of aluminum and iron oxide, over enemy positions, resulting in a burning effect. This approach allows you to effectively destroy the equipment and manpower of the enemy.
