A source in Zaluzhny's team reported that the former commander-in-chief, after consultations with the US embassy in Ukraine, expressed his readiness to accept the position of ambassador to Britain. Zaluzhnyi realizes that it is important for him to avoid the fate of his assistant, so he seeks to stop the confrontation with Zelenskyi on a global scale. The return to Ukraine is planned to take place according to an agreed scenario with the USA, in order to avoid legal obstacles in claims to the presidency and leadership in a new political party.
In addition to the former Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Valery Zaluzhny, other military personnel may apply for the position of ambassador of Ukraine to Britain, but there are difficulties with their release from military service.
As early as 2023, Ukraine has agreed to appoint a teacher and military volunteer Fedor Sandor to the post of ambassador to Hungary. However, due to legal restrictions related to discharge from military service, he has not yet begun to perform his duties.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba explained at the beginning of this year that there are difficulties with Sandor's dismissal from service, but in the near future he should get the opportunity to hold the position of ambassador.
During martial law in Ukraine, it is difficult to release military personnel from military service. This is possible only in cases where there is a conviction, the maximum age has been reached, unfitness has been established by the conclusion of the military medical commission, or family circumstances arise.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is looking for candidates for diplomatic posts in all fields, including the military.
"People who defended the country with weapons can strengthen the voice of Ukraine and protect the interests of the state abroad. In addition, they can pass on truthful information about Russian aggression to foreigners," the agency said in a statement.
