The Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, emphasized that the end of the war on the territory of Ukraine depends, first of all, on the will of the Ukrainians, but it is possible only under the conditions of a just world. In his interview with Euronews, he said that if the end of the war were only a matter of Ukraine's will, it would end "already tomorrow". However, in conditions of threat to national security and sovereignty, peace on terms that could leave Ukraine vulnerable or entail the loss of territory is unacceptable.
“We have become victims of this aggression, and we really want to restore a just peace. We want to put an end to this war,” says Yermak.
Commenting on US President Donald Trump's statement during the election debate, when he refused to say whether he wanted Ukraine to win the war, Yermak said that there was no need to reevaluate Trump's speech or look for some hidden meaning in it.
“Everyone understands: we need to end this war with a just peace. From our side, we have always said that victory equals a just peace. This means that there is no alternative for us,” Yermak said.
Regarding Trump's promise to end the war in one day, Yermak preferred not to mention any deadlines:
"I don't think anyone on this planet knows exactly when this war will end. If it were up to Ukraine and the entire democratic world, it would end tomorrow.".
He emphasized that Russia and Putin's plan - to take control of all of Ukraine by force and to destroy European values and the democratic order - remains unchanged.
“This is a war for Russia: it’s not a war for territory; it’s a war against democracy, and it’s a war against the free world. They want to destroy Ukraine, but it’s been three years. We’re still fighting, we’re still strong, and we’re still brave,” Yermak explained.
