Ukraine intends to sign an agreement with the US on the use of rare earth metals, but additional discussions must be discussed before signing the document. This was reported by Olga Stephanyshyn, a Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine, noting that Kyiv carefully monitors the development of events from the United States.
According to Stephanishina, Ukraine does not reject the US proposal, but the document needs to be finalized, so it is currently under discussion. Vice Prime Minister also noted that the agreement is expected to be signed after the necessary adjustments.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky earlier spoke in favor of investments from the United States, but emphasized that Ukraine should not be perceived solely as a country that supplies raw materials. It is important for Ukraine to provide economic benefits and security guarantees, which should be recorded in the agreement.
Zelensky also added that Ukraine is not simply a raw materials supplier, and this fact should be clearly recorded in the signed agreement.
Earlier, the White House reacted sharply to the refusal of Zelensky to sign an agreement on access to Ukrainian rare earth minerals, calling it a "short -sighted" solution. The US National Security Council Brian Huz noted that the rejection of the agreement means the abandonment of the possibility proposed by the Donald Trump administration and stressed that the United States was tired of constant financial assistance to Ukraine. He also noted that the agreement could promote the development of the Ukrainian economy and compensate for the expenses of US taxpayers in support of Kiev.
Huz stressed that close economic ties with the United States are important for protecting Ukraine from future threats and is the best guarantee of a stable and safe future for the country.
