Participants of the Czech initiative to purchase artillery shells for Ukraine outside of Europe signed an agreement under which Kyiv will receive a million rounds of ammunition.
This was reported by the Italian publication Corriere della Sera, citing its own sources.
Initially, it was assumed that 800,000 shells would be purchased: 500,000 for the largest caliber 155 mm and another 300,000 for 122 mm, but Czech officials found another 200,000 shells.
"It is not known to which companies the appeal was sent, although rumors point in particular to South Korea, Turkey and possibly South Africa," the newspaper writes.
In addition, according to Corriere della Sera, Ukraine may receive the first batches of ammunition not in June, as the Czech government previously publicly stated, but already in April.
In total, 15 countries have joined the Czech initiative, the article states, including Germany, France, Holland, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Belgium, Poland and Canada. Not all of them publicly announced the exact amount they paid for the purchase of shells.
