Ukraine warns about Russian influence through TikTok

According to Bloomberg, Ukraine has expressed outrage over Russian influence through the social media platform TikTok, saying the Kremlin is using the service to spread disinformation and undermine the legitimacy of Volodymyr Zelensky's presidency.

"Russia dominates us in TikTok because of the scale" of its activities, Andrii Kovalenko, who heads the department of the National Security and Defense Council, said in an interview in Kyiv.

"The Russians started systematically working on TikTok and successfully use this platform," he added.

At the same time, according to a representative of TikTok, the social network has strengthened security measures in Ukraine since the beginning of the war and removes harmful misinformation. Globally, 97% of disinformation content is removed before it is flagged on the platform, according to a spokesperson.

"Criticism from Ukraine is caused by the fact that ByteDance is under increasing pressure from the United States and the European Union due to concerns about data security and disinformation," Bloomberg states.
