Ukraine joined the position of the European Union regarding the non-recognition of the third "inauguration" of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, which took place on January 10. The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiga, called it a "fiction" and called for respect for the rights and freedoms of Venezuelans.
Nicolás Maduro, despite mass protests and international pressure, began a third presidential term that will last until 2031. The inauguration took place under heightened security due to the discontent of citizens who took to the streets of Caracas, accusing Maduro of usurping power.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiga, in his statement released through the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirmed that Ukraine supports the position of the EU.
"The so-called 'inauguration' of Nicolas Maduro was a fiction. The choice of the Venezuelan people was stolen. We will continue to support the people of Venezuela," said Sybiga.
He emphasized that Ukraine will continue to advocate for the rights and freedoms of citizens, calling for ensuring democratic standards in Venezuela.
In addition to Ukraine and the EU, the United States also condemned Maduro's actions. A number of sanctions have been introduced against Venezuela and its leader. Washington has even offered a reward for the arrest of Maduro, who is accused of crimes against humanity.
The international community continues to call for the restoration of democracy in Venezuela. Mass protests against Maduro indicate that the people of the country are ready to fight for their rights, and Ukraine's position demonstrates its readiness to uphold democratic values on the global stage.
