Ukraine has decided to abandon the demand of the United States to create a $ 500 billion fund, which was to become part of the Washington Agreement in the Power of Minerals of Ukraine. About it reports Bloomberg with reference to an unnamed Ukrainian official familiar with the course of negotiations.
According to information, this fund was to become a US compensation mechanism for the assistance they have provided to Ukraine since the beginning of a full -scale Russian invasion. However, Ukraine claims that the actual amount of US assistance received is much lower - about five times less than the amount that the US wants to receive through an agreement. It amounts to over $ 90 billion, which is much less than the $ 500 billion requested.
In addition, the source notes that another reason for the refusal was the lack of guarantees from the United States regarding future military and financial assistance to Ukraine. Without such guarantees, Ukraine considers it difficult to sign an agreement, which would provide for significant concessions on national resources.
According to US President Donald Trump, the United States has allocated $ 350 billion to Ukraine in Ukraine, and Washington now wants to return these funds through a mineral agreement. In response, US Finance Minister Scott Bessent states that Ukraine's natural resources can become a driving force for the country's economic growth after the war, but only if the Government of Ukraine receives proper capital and management incentives for development.
The proposed agreement stipulated that income from natural resources and other assets of Ukraine would be sent to a special fund, which aims at long -term reconstruction and development of a country where the US would have significant economic and management influence.
