The Armed Forces of Ukraine are preparing for important changes in the military service system in order to strengthen the country's defense capabilities in the face of a full-scale Russian invasion. One of the key initiatives is the introduction of a new military rank - recruit.
This title will be given to persons who will undergo military service, it is stated in the text of the law on amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine regarding certain issues of military service, mobilization and military accounting.
Thus, the recruits will be:
- persons who pass the test upon acceptance to service under the contract until the moment of taking the oath;
- mobilized, for the period of training in educational centers;
- those who will undergo basic military service.
The rank, along with basic training, is planned to take effect on September 1, 2025 . Conscripts and conscripts will undergo basic military training in:
- higher educational institutions;
- military educational units of higher education institutions;
- training centers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
During basic military training, conscripts will acquire basic skills and a military accounting specialty necessary to strengthen the country's defense capabilities. In peacetime, it will last 5 months:
- 3 months – military service;
- 2 months – professional training.
