January 2025 may be the beginning of a new era in gas payments for Ukrainians. Delivery rates remain unchanged due to the military moratorium, but the recalculation will be based on new consumption volumes, which will cause changes in the amounts. Those who have used gas sparingly may see a reduction in costs. Instead, consumers in small towns who use gas for heating will pay more.
How the delivery fee is calculated
The payment for gas delivery consists of two parts:
- The tariff for gas delivery , which remains fixed.
- The amount of gas consumed , which is recalculated annually.
Currently, the amount is calculated based on the volume of consumption for the "gas year" (October 1 - September 30). For example, in 2025, calculations will be made based on consumption data from October 2023 to September 2024.
For example, a family of three people in a house with an area of 100 m² consumes about 3878 cubic meters of gas per year. In Kharkiv, this will mean a monthly delivery fee of UAH 138.9, while in Mykolaiv - as much as UAH 642.9.
Who will have to pay more?
An increase in costs threatens those who use large volumes of gas for heating or live in regions with stretched gas networks and low density of consumers. For example, in Mykolaiv, Lviv or Transcarpathia, the tariff reaches UAH 1.99 per cubic meter, while in Kyiv it is the lowest - UAH 0.384.
How to reduce costs
Saving gas is the key to reducing costs. A simple way is to increase the energy efficiency of the house, which will reduce consumption by up to 20%. For the mentioned family, this will mean a reduction in consumption to 3102 cubic meters and savings on delivery:
- UAH 27.7 in Kharkiv,
- UAH 96.3 in Kropyvnytskyi,
- UAH 128.4 in Mykolaiv.
Also, the cost of gas itself will be significantly reduced, because its cost is UAH 7.96 per cubic meter.
Ukrainians who do not consume gas, but are connected to the network, are obliged to pay for the delivery of the minimum volumes:
- 39 cubes per year for cooking,
- 126 cubes - for heating water,
- 314 cubic meters - for heating.
Those who want to avoid this fee should completely disconnect from the gas network.
It remains an open question how the changes will affect most households. The tendency to save energy resources, strengthened by the tariff policy, may force Ukrainians to more actively implement energy-efficient solutions.
