In 2025, the "Affordable Medicines" program will receive a significant expansion, in particular, its funding will increase to UAH 6.6 billion. Already from January 1, Ukrainians are in for a whole series of changes — the addition of more than 30 new drugs, which will allow expanding access to medical products for the treatment of various diseases. By August 2025, all Ukrainian pharmacies must join this initiative, which will make the program available to all citizens of the country.
One of the main innovations is the expansion of the list of available drugs, which will include drugs for the treatment of glaucoma, metabolic and inflammatory diseases, as well as for pain relief and palliative care. The program will also include medicines for children - drops, ointments and antibiotics for the treatment of infectious diseases.
"This is an unprecedented step by the government, as from January 1, we will add more than 30 active substances to the program, which will double the number of available drugs, which are currently about 600," Nataliya Husak, head of the National Health Service of Ukraine, said on the air of the telethon.
The "Affordable Medicines" program is not aimed at the social status of patients, but at specific diagnoses. This means that access to medicines will be guaranteed to all Ukrainians, regardless of their social status or place of residence. Special attention is paid to medicines for children, which will provide the younger generation with the necessary medicines to fight against various diseases.
There is no need to overcome complex bureaucratic barriers to obtain medicines — it is enough to have a prescription from a family or treating doctor. This greatly facilitates the process of obtaining medicines, giving citizens more opportunities to meet their medical needs.
A total of UAH 6.6 billion will be allocated to the "Affordable Medicines" program in 2025, which is a significant increase compared to the previous year, when UAH 5 billion was used to implement the program. This will ensure wider access to vital medicines for millions of Ukrainians.
