From January 1, Ukrainians will receive new payments for gas delivery, while charges are made even for those who have not used gas during the year. However, there are two options when you can avoid this fee: if you are not connected to the gas network or if you cut off the gas supply yourself.
When can you not pay for gas delivery?
- Not connected to the gas network. If your home is not connected to gas, you will not be charged for delivery.
- Gas supply is blocked. If you turned off the gas yourself or had it done for you, for example due to debts, there is no delivery fee.
When will you have to overpay?
- The gas is not turned off. If you do not use gas, but have not disconnected it, you will still be charged for connecting to the gas network. To avoid this, you should contact the timing operator and submit an application for disconnection.
- Do not transmit meter readings. If you do not submit meter readings, you may be charged delivery fees based on average usage, which may be significantly higher than actual usage.
For example, in December 2024, the Volodymyr-Volynskyi City Court refused the plaintiff who demanded to cancel the debt for the delivery of gas, because he and his family left for Italy. The court explained that charges for gas delivery are made on the basis of consumption in the previous period, and even if gas was not consumed, charges are made based on minimum volumes. The court also noted that the termination or limitation of gas consumption does not release from the obligation to pay for delivery, if the contract is not terminated.
Therefore, if you no longer use gas or have left the country and want to avoid charges, you need to officially terminate the gas delivery contract and turn off the connection. If you don't, delivery charges will continue even if you don't use blue fuel.
