Since October 2025, working Ukrainian refugees in the Netherlands will pay more for living in state shelters. This was reported by the Minister for Refugees and Migration of Mon Kaiser, reports NOS.
Currently, Ukrainians who have temporary protection and official work or other sources of income pay 105 euros a month for shelters. But in the fall, this amount will increase to 244.22 euros. According to the official, this decision was made to unify the conditions of stay for Ukrainians and other categories of asylum seekers.
Mona Caser explained that the additional funds paid by Ukrainians will be directed to cover the state expenditures for gas, water and electricity in shelters. In this way, the government is trying to reduce the financial burden on the state budget and at the same time equalize the living conditions for all refugees.
For adult Ukrainians in temporary placement with organized food, another cost item is introduced - a monthly contribution of 252.18 euros. That is, a family of two adults for accommodation and food will be forced to pay up to 992.80 euros per month.
The Netherlands has reported changes in advance so that people could adapt their financial plans. Innovations are expected to touch tens of thousands of Ukrainian refugees, as more than 59% of them already have work or a stable source of income in the country.
The Netherlands government believes that new tariffs will make the refugee intake system fair and more balanced. In addition, the country tries to reduce the load on local budgets in the conditions of growing asylum requests.
