In the summer, Ukrainians may threaten electricity shutdown due to a deficiency of stable generation. The reason is the gradual withdrawal of nuclear power units in planned cooling and the lack of capacity of solar power plants to cover in the evening demand.
This was stated by a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy and HCP Sergey Nagornyak ("Servant of the People"). According to him, the main threat will be the evening - when people return home and actively use electrical appliances, including air conditioning in hot weather.
Energoatom has traditionally stopped part of its blocks for regulatory services in advance in the spring and summer. Therefore, a third of the capacity will be periodically decommissioned. This means that the main generation that is able to work evenly around the clock will decrease.
At the same time, renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power plants, can not provide a reliable coverage of evening consumption. “The sun sits down - and the generation falls. The wind is not guaranteed. And without industrial drives, we cannot balance the system, ”Nagornyak explains.
However, he said, it is possible to completely avoid shutdowns - if you make changes in energy policy.
In particular, proposed:
-
view the price caps for imported electricity so that traders can sell it in Ukraine at market prices;
-
To oblige the state companies by Energoatom and Ukrhydroenergo to buy electricity abroad in the evening, even more expensive - to ensure stability for the population.
“They purchased more - they sold cheaper, but without shutdowns. It is important, ”the deputy summed up.
While the government is preparing the decision, experts are already warning: in the case of hot weather with the active use of air conditioners, electricity deficiency will become a reality.
