The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the project of President Vladimir Zelensky's decree, which will make significant changes in the rules of military service in the Armed Forces of Ukraine (Armed Forces), the National Guard and the State Special Transport Service. According to government officials, these changes will bring the Ukrainian army closer to NATO standards, which is an important step towards further integration with the Alliance.
People's Deputy Alexei Goncharenko announced this in his Telegram-channel.
What changes expect military
- Career growth after the war - receiving ranks and positions will take place at the competition (by rating), not just in years of service.
- The rotation system - servicemen will be transferred to various positions to gain new experience and increase their professional level.
- Updating the contract service - it is planned to streamline the signing and continuation of the contracts, which will make it more transparent and more effective.
- The introduction of new types of service - the basic military service and reservist service will appear.
- Cancellation of conscripts - the traditional summary format will no longer apply, the emphasis will be placed on the contract and reserve service.
According to People's Deputy Alexei Goncharenko, these changes are part of a major military reform that implements NATO standards. However, due to the active phase of war, many norms will only take effect after the fighting is completed.
Recall that the new law on mobilization came into force on May 18, 2024. It provides changes in the order of conscription and clarifies the powers of the authorities in the sphere of mobilization. In addition, in December, the Cabinet adopted a number of new resolutions governing the provision of deferrals and changing the conscripts in the Reserve+Appendix.
