On Sunday, May 18, the Czech City of the Podobrada hosted a team championship of European walking. The national team of Ukraine completed the performance with three awards, and the main character was Lyudmila Olyanovskaya, who won "gold" at a distance of 20 km. This is the first Ukrainian gold among women at this distance at the European Team Championship.
Olyanovskaya has overcome the distance for 1:27:56 is the best result of the season. Frenchwoman Clemens Berett, who became the second, finished only nine seconds later and set a new national record for France. The third was another France - Pauline Stey.
The total result of four Ukrainian participants of the competition - Lyudmila Olyanovskaya, Maria Sakharuk, Elena Sobchuk and Valery Sholomitskaya - provided our team third in the team standings for 20 km. This is the third consecutive podium of Ukrainian women in this discipline: after "silver" in 2021 and 2023-"Bronze" in 2025.
Another bronze medal for Ukraine was won by the junior team (U-20 category) at a distance of 10 km. Roman Gorbachev finished seventh (42:38), Eduard Muravsky - tenth with a personal record (42:56), and Ilya Tyshkevich - twentieth (44:53). These results were the third place among the teams.
In addition, two new national records of Ukraine were set by Anna Shevchuk (2:42:41) and Sergey Svitlychny (2:30:00) at a distance of 35 km. Although they did not get medals, they showed outstanding personal results.
The Ukrainian national team once again proved that it remains among the leaders of European sports walking, demonstrating stability and high level of training even in the most difficult conditions.
