Prices for popular medicines from Ukrainian manufacturers have recently increased by 70-110%. The National Security and Defense Council has decided to fix the problem of prices that are unaffordable for Ukrainians. Thus, domestically produced medicines should become cheaper by 20-30%.
This was reported by the Cabinet of Ministers.
The President of Ukraine, by Decree No. 82/2025, introduced the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated February 12, 2024 "On additional measures to ensure the availability of medicines for Ukrainians.".
Minister of Health Viktor Lyashko presented a number of decisions to the NSDC members for consideration.
As for the most popular Ukrainian-made medicines, Ukrainian manufacturers have declared a 30% reduction in retail prices for the 100 most popular medicines starting March 1.
Ukrainian manufacturers, together with other participants in the pharmaceutical market, signed a declaration on reducing the price of medicines for the end consumer by 20%.
In addition, the Government is launching a number of regulations to ensure transparent pricing and proper competition, namely:
- Regulation is being established to determine the mark-up for all medicines, not just those included in the national price list.
- Any marketing services to promote medicines are prohibited until reference pricing is launched for all medicines sold in the country and clear rules for this process are established.
- Resumption of State inspections
There is also increased control over the availability of medicines in hospitals. These are medicines that are prescribed as treatment standards and are paid for by the state as part of the medical guarantees program. These medicines must be provided to patients in hospitals free of charge.
