Ukrainian epee fencers beat the favorites of the World Cup

The Ukrainian women's epee fencing team demonstrated extraordinary skill, winning silver medals at the World Cup stage held in Vancouver. The team, consisting of Joan Faby Bezhura, Inna Brovko, Olena Kryvytska and Anna Maksymenko, was able to defeat the tournament favorites, but lost in the final to the Republic of Korea.

The Ukrainian women began their journey with a tense match in the 1/8 finals, where they defeated the Canadian team with a minimal advantage of 33:32 in the last seconds. In the quarterfinals, they met with the Italian team, the first in the world seeding. Thanks to coordinated tactics and composure, our epee players won with a score of 34:33.

The semi-final was another triumph for the Ukrainian women: they confidently defeated the vice-champion of the 2024 Olympic Games, the French team, with a score of 38:30. In the final, our athletes competed against the powerful team of the Republic of Korea. Despite significant efforts, the result of the meeting was 34:45 in favor of the rivals.

For Olena Kryvytska, this medal was her 12th at the World Cup, and Joan Fabi Bezhura added her sixth to her collection. Inna Brovko won her fourth award, and Anna Maksymenko debuted with her first medal as part of the adult team.

This achievement confirmed the high level of the Ukrainian fencing school and the team cohesion of our athletes. Last year, the Ukrainian women won bronze in Vancouver, and this year they climbed one step higher.
