The Ukrainian women's epee fencing team demonstrated extraordinary skill by winning silver medals at the World Cup stage held in Vancouver. The team consisting of Joan Fabi Bezhura, Inna Brovko, Olena Kryvytska and Anna Maksimenko was able to overcome the favorites of the tournament, but lost in the final to the national team of the Republic of Korea.
The Ukrainian women started their journey with a tense meeting in the 1/8 finals, where only in the last seconds they defeated the Canadian team with a minimal advantage of 33:32. In the quarter-finals, they met with the Italian team — the first in the world seeding. Thanks to coordinated tactics and coolness, our fencers won with a score of 34:33.
The semifinal was another triumph for the Ukrainian women: they confidently defeated the vice-champions of the 2024 Olympic Games, the French team, with a score of 38:30. In the final, our athletes competed with the powerful national team of the Republic of Korea. Despite considerable efforts, the result of the meeting was 34:45 in favor of the rivals.
For Olena Kryvytska, this medal was already the 12th at the World Cup, and Joan Fabi Bejura added the sixth to her collection. Inna Brovko won the fourth award, and Anna Maksimenko debuted with the first medal as part of the adult team.
This achievement was a confirmation of the high level of the Ukrainian fencing school and the team cohesion of our athletes. Last year, the Ukrainian women won bronze in Vancouver, and this year they rose one step higher.
