Ukraine's allies, who promised to strengthen the country's air defense system earlier this year, are facing difficulties in fulfilling their commitments. As reported by Bloomberg , several NATO member countries have still not fulfilled their promises, which were confirmed at the alliance's July summit in Washington.
The reason for this is the economic endurance of Russia, which has been able to establish the production of missiles and ammunition at a pace that often outpaces the ability of Ukrainian allies to supply the necessary weapons. This creates serious obstacles for Ukraine in its ability to defend itself against Russian aggression.
In addition, Ukraine has currently suffered significant losses in its energy capacity. As a result, many citizens are forced to rely more and more on diesel generators to cope with prolonged power outages. The prospect of restoring electricity supply before the beginning of the heating season is becoming less and less likely.
Against this background, EU High Representative Josep Borrell reminded that the decision to cancel restrictions on the use of Western weapons supplied to Ukraine to defend against Russian aggression will remain within the competence of the national governments of the EU countries. This decision emphasizes the complexity and ambiguity of the situation in which Western countries found themselves, supporting Ukraine in the war with Russia.
