Ukrainian forces continue to strengthen their defenses in Sumy region, preparing for possible future Russian attacks. At the same time, the occupiers have recently made some progress southwest of Vovchansk in the Kharkiv direction.
Fighting continues in the area of the village of Lyptsy. Vadym Mysnyk, a representative of the Ukrainian operational command "North", reported that the military is actively strengthening and improving its defensive lines, focusing on the second and third lines of defense in the Sumy region. It was noted that when building fortifications, the Armed Forces of Ukraine take into account possible directions of the Russian offensive and local terrain.
Analysis of messages from Russian bloggers confirmed that the military command is transferring an unspecified number of occupation forces to the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.
According to the latest reports, on June 2, in connection with active fighting in the Kharkiv direction, Russian troops made some progress across the fields north and east of Starytsia, as well as in the Vovchansk area. They carried out mechanized assaults on settlements. Russian propagandists claim that Ukrainian forces are “unsuccessfully” conducting counterattacks in the northern and central parts of Vovchansk, as well as in the forest areas between Hlyboky and Lukyanetsy, both north of Kharkiv. Informants also stated that the fighting in Vovchansk and near Lyptsy “is becoming positional in nature.”.
According to ISW, in the attacks on Vovchansk, enemy forces used units of the 138th and 25th motorized rifle brigades, which are part of the 6th combined arms army of the Leningrad Military District, as well as a battalion, reconnaissance and sniper company of the 83rd separate guards airborne brigade.
