After several months of tense situation, the Ukrainian military finally launched a counterattack near Pokrovsk, pushing the front several miles and increasing the chances of saving the city. This development can significantly change the course of the war in the region.
According to information from Forbes, Ukrainian observers point out that earlier the reasons for the retreat of operational-strategic group "Tavria" to the east of Pokrovsk were not only insufficient forces, but also the lack of proper fortifications. This confirms the opinion that the transfer of additional brigades in the direction of Pokrovsk can have a significant impact.
In particular, the Kara-Dag brigade of the National Guard, the 12th "Azov" brigade and the 93rd mechanized brigade were involved in the counterattack. Although so far these attacks have not led to drastic changes, their main purpose is to slow down the Russian offensive and prepare for possible winter combat conditions.
The high relief of the area around Pokrovsk creates additional difficulties for the attackers. The operations of the "Kara-Dag" brigade in Selidovo, located southeast of Pokrovsk, are particularly important. The T-64 tanks of the brigade have already managed to cause significant damage to Russian tanks and combat vehicles that are trying to break through to Selidovoy.
According to the assessment of the Ukrainian Center for Defense Strategies, the upcoming battle for Pokrovsk may become the culmination of the enemy's offensive operation on the South-Western Front. Without control over Selydov, the Russians will not be able to ensure stability in their advance on Pokrovsk.
