The Ukrainian Armed Forces have replenished their arsenal with ATACMS missiles, which have a flight range of up to 300 kilometers. This is a new level of Ukrainian military technology that improves the country's defense capabilities in the face of geopolitical challenges and military threats.
Russian experts showed an overview of the "stuffing" of the rocket, including a block of laser gyroscopes and a GPS module of the guidance and flight correction system, as well as a detonator.
Parts of the American ATACMS missile, which was launched by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, fell into the hands of Russian specialists. The published video showed elements that indicate that Ukrainian forces use this type of weapon, which has a range of up to 300 km. The video of the review was published by the Russian mass media.
It is reported that elements of the missile were allegedly discovered in the area of the Sevastopol beach, which came under fire on July 1. The detonator and the guidance and flight correction system of the ATACMS missile, including the laser gyroscope unit and the GPS module, fell into the possession of Russian specialists.
Technical features
Guidance system
There are three laser ring horoscopes in the ATACMS guidance system, which work on the principle of changing the speed of the laser beam. Due to this, the missile is kept on the reconstructed ballistic trajectory. The system also has a GPS antenna, thanks to which correction is made on the initial and last section of the ballistic trajectory.
The specialist also added that it is possible to analyze the operation of the rocket's systems throughout the flight, as well as its course correction capabilities.
Explosive
A Russian weapons expert said that the rocket's detonator has a complex and multi-component design. Initially, it was developed for anti-ship missiles and only later was adapted for use in operational-tactical missiles. The peculiarity of the detonator is that it can be adjusted depending on the tasks.
One of the features of the detonator is the long-range clock system. This system works due to a moving pendulum, which after a certain time brings the detonator into the combat position. When the missile reaches a set distance or flight time, the pendulum initiates detonation of the detonator, preparing it for detonation.
"The detonator was in a combat position, which is indicated by the letter "A" in a special window. It has a clock system of long winding by means of a moving pendulum. After some time, it will be assembled," the expert said.
Inside the detonator, a rotary actuator is installed, which is a mechanism that closes the internal circuit of the detonator. This actuator provides the electrical connection necessary to trigger the detonator during impact or target acquisition.
To increase reliability, the detonator is equipped with a duplicated system — it contains backup mechanisms and components that ensure the functioning of the detonator even in case of failure of one of the parts.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian experts point out that the detonator shown in the video is structurally different from the FMU-141/B typical for the M48 missile, which has a range of 270 km.
“Therefore, it can be assumed that this is FMU-161/B. M57 missiles with a unitary warhead and a maximum range of up to 300 km are equipped with these detonators!" - they explained.
