Serhiy Kulish, a Ukrainian shooter, brought Ukraine a silver medal at the Paris Olympics in the 50-meter three-position rifle shooting event. This is Ukraine's second medal at these Olympics, after fencer Olga Kharlan won bronze on July 29.
This is Kulish's second Olympic attempt in the three-position rifle event. At the previous Games in Tokyo, he failed to secure a medal due to a mistaken shot at a different target, which ultimately led to him finishing eighth.
This year, Kulish successfully passed the qualification, showing a third result. At the selection stage, in kneeling and standing positions, he scored an impressive 199 out of 200 possible points.
The final round was a tough one, involving three series of five shots in each of the two main positions, kneeling and prone, and two series of standing shots. After the first part of the competition, Kulish held third place, 0.1 points ahead of India's Swapnil Kusale. But in the next series, Kulish came out on top, showing an impressive 10.9 points.
Unfortunately, the Ukrainian shooter was unable to maintain his lead until the end. He was only beaten by Chinese athlete Liu Yukun and finished the competition on the second step of the podium.
This result confirms Kulish's high level of training and brings Ukraine another medal at the prestigious Olympic Games.
