Ukrenergo has announced the introduction of emergency power outages for commercial facilities. This step is a response to the energy shortage in the power system. If necessary, such emergency outages can be extended to household consumers.
As Ukrenergo notes, from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., the volume of power supply restrictions for industry and business will be distributed evenly among all regions. The reason for the restrictions is the shortage of electricity due to massive enemy strikes.
“If consumption continues to increase in the evening, Ukrenergo will be forced to resort to a last resort to balance the power system – to apply emergency shutdowns for household consumers throughout Ukraine,” Ukrenergo adds.
Household consumers are advised to:
- do not turn on powerful electrical appliances at the same time;
- postpone washing until night;
- turn off lights in empty rooms.
Business and industry are advised to:
- reduce the lighting of the sales areas;
- reduce the use of energy-intensive equipment;
- review production processes;
- attract imports to ensure the avoidance of outages and increase the resilience of the power system.
Massive shelling on the night of May 8
This night, the enemy launched a combined strike against Ukraine using missiles and attack drones. In total, the enemy launched 55 missiles, as well as 21 drones. Ukraine's air defenses destroyed 59 air targets.
According to Ukrenergo, the enemy targeted the energy infrastructure of Lviv, Poltava, Vinnytsia, and a number of other regions.
Commenting on the massive shelling, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said that Russia had only added to the list of war crimes.
