Starting January 1, 2025, Ukrposhta is completely changing its approach to parcel pricing, abandoning weight as the main parameter. As reported by the company's CEO, Igor Smilyansky, the new system will include tariffs that will depend solely on the volume of the shipment.
What is known about the new tariffs?
As part of the changes, 8 tariff sizes will be introduced, which will be based solely on the volume of shipments. The lowest tariff will remain unchanged, and the rest will remain competitive in the market. Ukrposhta will offer two main delivery options:
- “Priority” rate – for those who want to receive fast service.
- “Basic” tariff – for customers who want to save up to 50% compared to competitors.
Smilyansky explained that the innovation should simplify and make pricing more transparent. Now customers will pay only for the volume their shipment takes up, without taking into account dimensional weight or other complexities. This approach is already actively used by global market leaders such as FedEx and UPS.
How will this work?
Despite the abandonment of weight-based pricing, customers will still need to indicate it when shipping. This is necessary:
- to control the integrity of the package;
- to avoid problems with non-standard cargo, such as heavy items that could damage other shipments.
Is it possible to send non-standard packages?
Yes, but you will have to pay extra for this. In case of manual processing of non-standard cargoes, the additional fee will be 50 hryvnias.
The change in tariffs eliminates the injustice of paying the same for 3 kg parcels as for 10 kg. Now, by choosing the appropriate bulk tariff, customers will receive more flexible and favorable conditions.
