Ukrtransbezpeka has once again found itself at the center of a corruption scandal: recently, law enforcement officers have recorded two cases of receiving and extorting bribes in different regions of the country. The incidents occurred in Cherkasy and Khmelnytskyi regions and demonstrate a systemic problem in the work of the agency.
In Cherkasy region, an employee of the State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety was detained for trying to bribe his colleague. According to the investigation, the official offered the inspector a monthly "contribution" of 50 thousand hryvnias for ignoring violations by carriers. Among the violations were exceeding weight standards and the lack of necessary permits for passenger transportation. In other words, the money was supposed to legalize illegal actions for a fixed fee.
On January 10, the official was detained while transferring money. He was charged under Part 3 of Article 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - providing an illegal benefit to an official.
In Khmelnytskyi region, a senior state inspector of Ukrtransbezpeka was detained while receiving 30,000 hryvnias from an entrepreneur for the unhindered transportation of agricultural products. According to the investigation, the official not only promised to ignore the violations, but also provided official information about the locations of weight control points so that the carrier could avoid inspections and fines.
The arrest took place in January 2026 in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The court chose to keep the suspect in custody. The official's actions were qualified under Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - receiving unlawful benefit, which provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.
Both cases show that corruption in the department is systemic. Weight control, issuing permits, and inspections have turned into a mechanism for extorting money. As a result, violations of transportation rules are not eliminated, roads are destroyed by overloaded trucks, and the state budget suffers millions in losses.
Experts emphasize: as long as Ukrtransbezpeka functions as a "tribute" collection point, and not as a control body, such cases will be repeated. Each "unhindered" flight without fines is another confirmation that the system works not for the law, but for personal gain.
