The Head of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, has announced plans to conduct a personnel purge in the department, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), and the leadership of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). According to information published in the media, the main reasons for these measures are inefficiency, outdated work methods, and insufficient results in various areas.
Defense Minister Rustem Umerov has dismissed two deputies of the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate under Kirill Budanov - Viktor Zaitsev and Igor Ostapenko - and is planning large-scale personnel "purges".
This was reported by the Ministry of Defense.
According to one of the sources, the dismissal of the deputy heads of the State Security Service took place about a week ago. Budanov himself did not agree with the decision to dismiss. According to the interlocutor of the Ukrainian Press, such a decision is not the initiative of the minister himself.
At the same time, unconfirmed information is actively circulating on the Internet that the President's Office is planning to dismiss Budanov himself.
The interlocutor did not comment on these rumors.
Another source noted that Defense Minister Rustem Umerov plans to dismiss or has already dismissed about 20 generals and senior officials.
