Doctors of Okhmatdyt in Kyiv performed a unique operation for a 9-month-old patient from Ternopil, the Ministry of Health reported.
Already in the womb of the child, a complex heart defect was detected, and at birth, an additional disease was detected, which caused liver failure. During the liver transplant, the little patient also had a heart defect corrected. It was reported that after the birth of the girl, another disease was discovered, which led to liver failure. At the age of 9 months, Tatyanka had developmental disorders that endangered her life.
“Each of these problems could be solved at different times and with different methods, and simultaneous surgery was very risky. However, without surgery, the child had no chance of survival. The operation was unique: simultaneous correction of a heart defect and liver transplantation from a donor - her mother," the doctors emphasized.
Currently, it is stated that the little patient is feeling much better, is constantly smiling and is preparing to return home.
