Despite it being mid-May, warm spring weather is in no hurry to return to Ukraine. According to weather forecasters, the country is expected to experience rain, gusty winds, and even frost in some regions in the coming days.
Well-known Ukrainian weather forecaster Natalka Didenko notes that wet and cold weather will persist at least until May 20. Only after this date can we expect gradual, albeit tentative, warming.
Another forecaster, Ihor Kibalchych, warns of unstable weather conditions on May 16–17. In particular, on May 16, it will rain almost throughout the country, except for Crimea and the southeastern regions. Heavy showers, thunderstorms, hail, and wind gusts up to 22 m/s are possible in the center and north.
The air temperature on May 16 will fluctuate during the day within +8…+13 °C in the west and north, and up to +21 °C in the south and east. Night temperatures on May 17 will drop to +3…+8 °C, and in the western regions frosts to -3 °C are possible in places.
The end of the week also does not promise warmth. Significant rains are expected, especially on the Left Bank and in the Carpathians. Forecasters predict +2…+8 °C at night, and up to +18 °C during the day, but in the western regions the air will warm up only to +13 °C.
Thus, real spring is still a long way off. Ukrainians should stock up on patience — and warm clothes.
