The government of Ukraine announced its intention to reduce the number of ministries in the country and implement the "Action" program to improve the work of civil servants. In addition, the Cabinet of Ministers is working on the creation of a Government Center that will coordinate auxiliary administrative functions.
This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal during a press conference. "The president announced that we are working on changing the format of the government, that is, reducing the number of ministries. We want to reduce the number of ministries by a third, reduce the number of civil servants," he said.
According to him, 20,000 civil service vacancies have already been cut this year.
Shmyhal also noted that the Cabinet of Ministers is working on the creation of the Government Center, where auxiliary administrative functions will be concentrated.
He explained that the ministries should form policies, and the Government Center will in turn provide legal, personnel, accounting and other support.
"We are also working on the introduction of the so-called "Action" for civil servants," the head of government said.
On February 25, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that the management apparatus may be reduced later due to a shortage of funds for its financing.
"We have this conversation with the prime minister, and it is based solely on the lack of money. If the corresponding deficit continues, we will do everything so that the infrastructure, and this is not only about the Cabinet of Ministers, so that the management infrastructure of our state is reduced. There is such a format, we are prepared for it," said Zelensky.
He emphasized that we are talking about reducing the number of ministries, ministers, and more coordinated management.
