In case of adoption of draft law No. 10449 by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, mandatory basic military service will be introduced for citizens from the age of 18 instead of fixed-term. However, mobilization from the age of 18 will not be carried out.
The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine announced key changes in the draft law related to mobilization. This refuted rumors about intentions to reduce the mobilization age.
According to the innovations proposed in the draft law, starting in 2025, mandatory basic service will be introduced for youth aged 18 and over, instead of a fixed-term service. The duration of basic service will vary depending on the circumstances: 5 months in peacetime and 3 months in wartime.
In addition, "basic military training" will be implemented in higher educational institutions from 2025. Passing this training will allow some categories of citizens to be freed from it. Citizens from the age of 18 will also have the opportunity to choose the time of basic military service.
It is also provided that all citizens of Ukraine over the age of 18, regardless of basic military training or service, will receive a deferral until they reach the age of mobilization, i.e. up to 25 years.
The mobilization age will be set from 25 to 60 years. People's deputies began consideration of amendments to this draft law on March 11. Among the key issues is the regulation of supervision of people with disabilities of the I, II and III groups.
After the first reading, people's deputies submitted more than 4,000 amendments to draft law No. 10449.
