The Security Service of Ukraine, together with the National Police, detained in Odessa a Russian agent who was making improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to carry out terrorist attacks in Ukraine. One of his “products” was already used on March 23 of this year during an attack on a regional police station in the city of Bilyaivka, Odessa region.
According to the investigation, the explosives were brought to the station by a local resident recruited by the FSB, who detonated the device remotely — as a result, not only she died, but also other people who became victims of this terrorist attack.
As it turned out, the explosive device was made and handed over to the agency by a courier - a 44-year-old repeat offender from the Dnipropetrovsk region, who was hiding in Odessa. According to operational information, it was he who was the key link in the implementation of the terrorist attack. The man came to the attention of Russian special services because of his activity in Telegram channels, where he was looking for "quick money". After recruitment, he carried out tasks for the FSB - among other things, setting fire to the cars of Ukrainian military personnel.
To make the explosives, he rented an apartment in Odessa — the FSB paid for the rent. After the terrorist attack in Belyaivka, the man constantly changed his place of residence and phone numbers, trying to avoid arrest. However, the SBU located him and detained him.
During searches of the agent's apartment, a disguised explosive device was discovered hidden in the body of a fire extinguisher. The explosive device contained additional striking elements and a mobile phone, which was to serve as a means of remote detonation. According to preliminary data, this device was planned to be used for a new terrorist attack in the region in the near future.
The detainee has now been charged under Part 3 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - a terrorist act that resulted in the death of a person. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
