The Ukrainian authorities have given the Telegram company a list of channels they consider "potentially problematic." This was reported by the representative of the platform Remy Wong.
According to Wong, Ukraine handed over the list of channels as part of cooperation with the platform to resolve issues regarding content that may violate the country's laws or cause other problems.
"We are currently studying it and will take action against any content that violates Telegram's terms of service," he said. Wong did not say which channels were included in this list, but assured that their messenger is safe for all users.
“Telegram was specifically created to protect users from Russian surveillance. Our applications are open source and the encryption protocol is fully documented, so any researcher can independently verify its integrity and implementation,” he added.
Telegram representatives did not disclose details about the specific channels that were included in the list, but noted that the platform will study this list and take appropriate measures.
At the end of February, the Committee on Freedom of Speech of the Verkhovna Rada held a round table during which they discussed the potential threat to the national security of Ukraine from the side of the messenger. Its participants came to the conclusion that Telegram should be banned in Ukraine.
Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Combating Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, is convinced that it is impossible to block the messenger in Ukraine.
Later, the Committee on Freedom of Speech stated that the Telegram administration refuses to block channels that spread Russian propaganda.
